The two-year ERIM Master of Philosophy in Business Research programme focuses on the development of academic competencies and skills on a personal level.

A maximum of 30 students each year attend the international research master programme, which is taught in English. The small class size means you soon settle into class and have close contact with your tutors and classmates.

In the ERIM Master of Philosophy in Business Research, you choose one of five domains of management:

  • Business Processes, Logistics & Information Systems
  • Organisation
  • Marketing
  • Finance & Accounting
  • Strategy & Entrepreneurship.

In the first year, you follow courses on research methodology and methods, the foundations of management, plus your chosen specialisation.

In the second year, you choose from a number of advanced courses on methodology and advanced research in your specialisation. As an ERIM research master student, you receive training in presentation, publishing and academic writing. You actively participate in research seminars with ERIM faculty, visiting professors and fellows.

This programme builds on a university Bachelor degree. You will be thoroughly trained in research methodology and techniques, as well as in your chosen field of expertise which will be required if you want to continue to the PhD stage of the programme.

When you have completed all of the course requirements, you will be granted a master degree. The certificate and supplement state that you’ve completed a two-year programme, the ERIM Master of Philosophy in Business Research, which according to Dutch law gives you the title ‘MSc’.

The estimated costs of living in the Netherlands for students are around 10000 per year. Applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) may apply for a subsistance allowance.

ERIM offers a limited amount of subsistance allowances to the very best non-EEA applicants. The subsistence allowance is sufficient to cover the costs of living in the Netherlands for 1 year (10000 ). Students who would like to apply for this subsistance allowance have to submit a written scholarship application with the rest of their application package. Scholarship application should include a motivation letter and a financial statement prooving the need for financial support. For more information please contact the ERIM Doctoral Office.

Furthermore, ERIM also offers a reduced tuition fee to several exellent non-EEA students. This means that instead of paying 15,550 per year for tuition fee, one pays 1,828 instead. The decision on granting the reduced tuition fee is made after the application package has been reviewed and applicant has been accepted.

In their second year, ERIM Research Master students can aply for the Personal Research Assistantship (PRA), which does not only help them financially but also allows students to work closely with ERIM best researchers.

ERIM was officially accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 1999 and was re-accredited for another six years in 2010.

The ERIM Research Master programme was accredited by the Dutch and Flemish Accreditation Organisation for Higher Education (NVAO) in 2004. Re-accreditation took place in 2009, and will stand for another six years. The programme also has a process of internal quality assurance, embedded in the accreditation process of ERIM as research school, and within the international accreditation of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

RSM is part of an elite group of less than 1% of business schools worldwide that hold the Triple Crown accreditation from the three leading international accreditation organisations; The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, AACSB; the Association of MBAs, AMBA; and EQUIS, the European Quality Improvement System. These organisations regularly asses all programmes offered by RSM, including ERIM programmes.
