The University of Arizona College of Engineering provides online distance learning opportunities for the Industrial Engineering (MS) degree program. The program is designed with the flexibility needed for people unable to attend on-campus classes and working professionals, including choice of program and on-demand availability, in addition to real-time access to lectures.

The MS in Industrial Engineering requires a minimum of 30 credit hours:

The following 3-unit classes are required courses in the major:

  • SIE 530 Engineering Statistics
  • SIE 540 Survey of Optimization OR
  • SIE 545 Fundamentals of Optimization.


Program requirements

Students then select from one of the following 3 options:1. Project Option- Either a 3 or 6 credit Project may be selected with approval of the faculty advisor. The remaining elective credits for a total of 30 credit hours will be selected with the approval of an advisor and the Graduate Study Committee. 2. Thesis Option- Students may choose to write a 6 credit hour thesis with approval of the faculty advisor. Students will either defend their thesis on campus or will have to arrange for a teleconference defense. The remaining elective credits for a total of 30 credit hours will be selected with the approval of an advisor and the Graduate Study Committee. 3. Coursework Option- A total of 33 credit hours are required for this option. At least one 3 credit hour course must be completed at the 600 level with a grade of "B" or above.The remaining elective credits will be selected with the approval of an advisor and the Graduate Study Committee. English Language Requirements TOEFL paper-based test score : 550

To ensure you get the best financial package, be sure to complete a FAFSA by March 1st and have a complete Admissions Application (application, transcripts, SAT/ACT scores) by May 1st.
