Make the move into the fast paced world of international commerce with a degree designed to give you up-to-the-minute knowledge of global management issues. In today's globalised economy, the ability to think and work across boundaries and borders is imperative.

Taking a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on economics, finance, organisational theory, marketing and human resource management, you examine areas of international business and management in depth, including economic, financial, technological, marketing and managerial issues facing multinational enterprises. This allows you to apply your skills anywhere in the world.

You also receive a thorough grounding in social science research issues and methods, including techniques of quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis and interpretation. The course includes a Masters thesis (research dissertation) on an international business-related topic.

Graduates will gain partial exemption from membership to the Institute of Export, with the potential of a full exemption depending on the choice of options and research focus of the dissertation.

In addition, there is a possibility in the course to spend a semester at an international partner institution to broaden your horizons and enhance your employability in the global job market. As there are a limited number of exchange places available, the scheme is competitive and you can apply for a place once you are registered on the course.

    Module details

The course consists of both compulsory and optional taught units. Compulsory course units include: Fundamentals of International Business; Economic Analysis of the Multinational Enterprise; Marketing Issues in International Business; Financial Risk Management for International Business; and Research Methods and Data Analysis. Optional course units include: International Trade: Theory, Policy and Practice; International Business Negotiations; International Marketing; Multinational Management; European Integration and International Business; Multinationals, Development and Technology Transfer; Mergers and Acquisitions: Economic and Financial Aspects; and Institutions and Firms' Internationalisation Strategies.

There may also be an opportunity to study for one semester in an Exchange Institution. Details can be found here.

    UK requirements for international applications

Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Students have to register on the UCAS website before applying to the university. They will find all the necessary information about the application process on this website. Some graduate courses also require registration on this website, but in most cases students have to apply directly to the university. Some universities also accept undergraduate application through Common App (the information about it could be found on universities' websites).

Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university. The second one, “conditional offer” makes your admission possible if you fulfill some criteria – for example, have good grades on final exams. The third one, “unsuccessful application” means that you, unfortunately, could not be admitted to the university of you choice.

All universities require personal statement, which should include the reasons to study in the UK and the information about personal and professional goals of the student and a transcript, which includes grades received in high school or in the previous university.
